Choral performance: A John Rutter Christmas
Whether you’re a lifelong choral enthusiast or new to the genre, “A John Rutter Christmas” offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of live music, surrounded by a community of fellow music lovers. With soaring harmony, piano, strings, brass, and organ, this concert will surely delight the whole family.
The program will include numerous carols written by Sir John Rutter, an internationally recognized English composer, and will feature his Gloria as the concert’s centerpiece. Choir students from Sharpstein Elementary School will join the WWCS singers for part of the concert.
The Gloria, commissioned by the Voices of Mel Olson, a choir from Omaha, Nebraska, was written in 1974. The piece is structured into three movements, each corresponding to a section of the Latin text of the Roman Catholic liturgy’s Ordinary of the Mass: proclamatory, prayerful, and joyfully affirmative. Rutter based the melody of his piece on a Gregorian chant associated with the text. The piece is scored for choir, strings, brass, percussion, and organ. The music is simple and direct in style, with the instrumentalists playing an important role as equal partners with the voices.

Live Music: Evensong
We invite you to join us at Evensong, performed by Dr. Kraig Scott and his students.
Evensong on the campus of Walla Walla University began in 1962 and takes place about eight times per year. Two teachers, professor of music Melvin K. West (organist) and professor of communications Loren Dickinson (reader), wanted to shape a service to mark the end of the Sabbath. Because of this, the service changes time throughout the year to coincide with sunset.
The meditative alternation of readings and music they created is beautiful, thoughtful, and unrelated to the Anglican service of the same name.

Pigs on the Wing: Echoes of Pink Floyd
Pigs on the Wing’s 2023-2024 tour, “Echoes of Pink Floyd,” is a second act to the band’s previous year’s tour. As before, the Echoes of Pink Floyd tour will feature a new selection of the best classic-era Pink Floyd cuts organized into two distinct sets. Rather than performing a single album from start to end, expect to hear the band focus on their favorite sections of the classic albums, including hits, deep cuts, and the band’s trademark willingness to explore the sonic space in experimental improvisation. Fans can expect an immersive visual show — a don’t-miss event for any Pink Floyd fan!
From its garage-rock roots in 2006 as a one-off show to full-album productions to performing for
thousands of fans yearly, Portland-based Pigs on the Wing have built a loyal following dedicated to the band’s high-energy take on Pink Floyd’s music. All Pigs on the Wing members are seasoned veterans of the Pacific Northwest rock scene and are unapologetic in bringing their wide-ranging musical influences to the table.
Setting the band aside from other tribute rock acts, Pigs on the Wing balances a decidedly un-tribute-like attitude towards the music with precision to detail and a deep understanding of the importance of Pink Floyd’s music in the lives of fans everywhere.
Amongst the band’s accomplishments, Pigs on the Wing has in recent years featured full album performances of The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall and was recently ranked the #4 Pink Floyd tribute worldwide. None are bigger fans of the work of Pink Floyd than the members of Pigs on the Wing themselves, a dedication which has been foremost in the band’s approach since the very beginning.
Pigs on the Wing is Eric Welder (bass/vocals), Matt Jones ( keys/vocals), Bryan Fairfield (drums), Holly Brooks (vocals), Dave Lindenbaum (guitar/vocals), Jason Baker ( guitar/vocals); and Matt Sulikowski (saxophone).

A Band Called Honalee
A Band Called Honalee is a modern-day folk trio inspired by the music and legacy of Peter, Paul & Mary. Musically accomplished, interactive, and energetic, their shows allow audiences to experience this timeless music live onstage once again. The group believes the melodies and messages of the 1960s folk and folk/rock era are just as relevant today as they were when they were first sung, perhaps even more so. Their mission is to share this uniquely American music with new audiences while rekindling the passion of lifelong fans.
Satisfying diehard Peter, Paul & Mary lovers as well as newcomers to this wonderful era of music, the band’s shows feature all of PPM’s beloved hits, including “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” “Blowing in the Wind,” and of course “Puff The Magic Dragon.” With virtuosic musicianship, stirring vocal harmonies, and polished showmanship, A Band Called Honalee also offers favorites from Bob Dylan, The Byrds, Pete Seeger, Joni Mitchell, The Mamas & The Papas, Joan Baez, The Weavers, Judy Collins, and many others.

What is a Chief?
At the age of 55, John Halliday became legally blind. As a Muckleshoot Tribal member of Duwamish ancestry, Halliday says his Native American worldview, cultural traditions, and values, which have sustained Native tribes throughout history, long before colonization, have helped him overcome the challenges associated with losing his sight.
Too often, our understanding of American history begins with foreign European powers “settling” the land—as though no thriving human communities existed here. Woven in with John’s personal story, audiences will learn Washington State history from a Native American perspective and how that history can teach resilience.

Kommuna Lux
Fall in love with Odesa, Ukraine, the Pearl of the Black Sea! Kommuna Lux brings you the heritage music of their beloved hometown. Klezmer, Balkan, and Urban Chanson, with a dash of Ukrainian Folk and powered by rocket fuel, Kommuna Lux impacts the crowd with a nostalgic, high-energy Big Band sound from the bygone days of speakeasies and rum runners.
These conservatory-trained musicians started playing flash mobs in Odesa’s markets, piers, and streets and quickly moved up to local and national stages.
When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, the band went into shock along with the rest of their countrymen. One musician even left to join the army. But the others soon decided they could do more good with their instruments than guns and began touring Europe earnestly to raise money and support for Ukraine. That summer, they raised thousands of dollars and became the “go-to band” for Klezmer music in Germany and Poland. Their first USA tour in the Fall of 2023 was so successful that they founded a 501-c3 non-profit to make it even easier to support Ukraine.
People don’t just listen to Kommuna Lux. They fall in love! No one can resist these playful, passionate Ukrainian musicians who have so much fun on stage that you get caught up in their joy.
