A Game Apart provides a glimpse of Jackie Robinson's life during a bygone era of separate and unequal locker rooms, whites-only hotels, and restaurants with only a back door for colored athletes to enter. Witness the hopeless humiliation of a star player who was showered with adulation on the field and became a second-class citizen when he walked off the diamond. Meet Jackie's compatriots fighting the same battles between the end zones, inside the ring, and around the track. A Game Apart is a powerful lesson of courage through dedication, perseverance, and leadership.

About Mike Wiley: Acclaimed actor and playwright Mike Wiley has spent the last decade fulfilling his mission to bring educational theatre to young audiences and communities nationwide. In the early days of his career, Wiley found few theatrical resources to highlight key events and figures in African-American history. To bring these stories to life, he started his own production company. Through his performances, Wiley has introduced countless students and communities to the legacies of Emmett Till, Henry "Box" Brown, and more.

Saltwater Sky is a rising country band from the Pacific Northwest and Wyoming. Formed in 2019, they've been making waves on the music scene with their small-town storytelling and lively atmosphere.

With their soulful, unapologetic, and charismatic sound, Saltwater Sky leans on the bluesy rock influences of their musical upbringings. Painting colors with their melody-driven vocals and a blazing fiddle that battles equally for the front, Saltwater Sky brings a unique country sound with honesty and enthusiasm.

Scott Heuston, the band's lead singer, fell in love with songwriting in college. He has written over 400 songs and is a published poet. Believing that lyrics and a strong message are essential to their sound, country music is a proven runway for the opportunity to tell a story "our way."

Filmmaker Alexander Freeman, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of two, was raised by his loving and supportive parents. Still, he has always wanted to be in a loving relationship with a woman and have a family of his own. When Alexander meets his life partner Orina by chance at a film screening, his life changes forever for the better, especially when his daughter Maya is born.

As Alexander and Orina raise Maya, have a commitment ceremony, start their lives together, and struggle with life’s challenges, Alexander’s parents learn to accept that Alexander can live a normal life independently and be a great father despite their original views on the pregnancy.

He presents music that grooves slowly and runs deep. He plays at a loud enough volume to enjoy but never overpowering — loud enough to hear but never intrusive.

Deep Sea Diver is a Seattle-based rock band led by guitarist and vocalist Jessica Dobson, who recently signed up with Sub Pop Records to release their music to the world and beyond.

The rapturous “Billboard Heart” is a stunning introduction to Deep Sea Diver’s universe. The song puts Dobson and her band in the company of St. Vincent, TV on the Radio, and Flock of Dimes, bands that have found ornate and magnetic ways to make indie rock by discarding notions of how it must sound or what it must say. Dobson punches through her past here with this new song and forthcoming album. As she howls during “Billboard Heart,” she is “welcoming the future by letting go of it.” 

Dobson offers this in the song “‘Billboard Heart,” which is a song that felt like a strange transmission, a new emotion, and a spirit-filled dream when it came. It is my nod to the simplicity of my favorite Tom Petty songs and my love for Wim Wenders’ film Paris, Texas. The feeling of standing in the lonesome desert, embracing every particle of yourself, even the ones that are hard to look at, and fighting for your spirit to move through this world without entanglement. It is about being present and embracing the future while wholeheartedly letting go of any control I think I have in this life. ‘Billboard Heart’ is both a longing for something that may not exist and a place where I can be free.” 

“Billboard Heart” is Deep Sea Diver’s first new music since Impossible Weight, the band’s Billboard charting album from 2020. It includes the title track duet with Sharon Van Etten and “Stop Pretending,” which made “NPR Music’s “100 Best Songs of 2020.” Impossible Weight was also #1 on KEXP’s “Top 90.3 Albums of 2020” list. 

In addition to her work as Deep Sea Diver, Dobson has logged time as a touring member for Beck and The Shins and has performed with numerous other musicians, including Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Spoon, Boeckner, and Dinosaur Jr. In addition to headline touring, they’ve supported the likes of Death Cab for Cutie and Wilco. Most recently, Deep Sea Diver played to the largest audiences of their career, supporting Pearl Jam twice within the last year — first with a handful of dates in the Fall of 2023 and, more recently, a lengthier run in May 2024.

Fort Walla Walla Museum is officially ready for spring! April is the start of our annual April Fools Scavenger Hunt. Modern items will be hidden in some of the Museum’s exhibits—list them all and get a prize in the Museum Store!

The first day of the event is Saturday, April 1st, and the last day is Sunday, April 30th. The Museum is open from 10 am-5 pm daily. Guests are invited to participate in the Scavenger Hunt, a fun way to talk about the exhibits and identify some things that don’t quite belong.

From Vancouver, Canada, post-punk new wave outfit ACTORS provides driving beats, massive hooks, and dramatic atmospheres that are equally melancholy and electrifying. “Cinematic” is a worn-out word, but here, it is simply impossible not to envision movie scenes unfolding as each track plays.

In 2018, the Jason Corbett-led foursome signed with Toronto-based Artoffact Records and released its long-awaited debut, It Will Come to You, and quickly became one of the marquee acts on the label. Corbett writes, produces, mixes, and masters all ACTORS music at his own Vancouver studio, Jacknife Sound, and names David Bowie as a fundamental influence – Bowie’s sense of confidence and creativity are in full effect on It Will Come to You. But much more than a retro act, this music stands on its own, full of life and unforgettable hooks. Perhaps best described as a “post-post-punk” band, ACTORS belongs in the mix alongside bands like The Soft Moon and Cold Cave, pushing music forward via a deep knowledge of the past.

ACTORS spent the 18 months after the release of It Will Come to You touring the USA, Canada, and Europe while hitting many of the best-loved festivals, including Terminus Festival, Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Cold Waves, Infest, A Murder of Crows, and many others. The band gave sessions to LA’s Part Time Punks and Seattle’s KEXP, while their songs “Slaves” & “Crystal” found their way to episodes of the Netflix series The Order, and “We Don’t Have to Dance” was featured in Nancy Drew. In Late 2020, ACTORS announced a new single, “Love U More,” with Juno-Award-winning director Peter Ricq contributing his talents to the accompanying video.

Three years later, the follow-up, Acts Of Worship, broke hearts and set fire to dance floors. Corbett points to legends who changed the face of pop music in their day – David Bowie, Roxy Music, Duran Duran – as inspirations. “It’s about embracing who you are and having the confidence to do what you feel and not be afraid,” he says. The album saw the debut of new bassist Kendall Wooding. Corbett noted that the current lineup, completed by synth player Shannon Hemmett and drummer Adam Fink, perfectly reflects the balance of masculine and feminine energy contained within the songs.

Opening the concert is the experimental post-punk electronic duo Plasticstatic. Their unique style blends shoegaze atmosphere with esoteric electronic washes for a truly special sound that rides the razor-thin margin between organic and electronic.

The Museum Open House is a chance for residents to see what’s new at the old fort — and to mark the official re-opening of the Pioneer Village for the warmer months!

With five exhibit halls and a 17-structure pioneer settlement, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Learn about the territorial prison, horse-era agricultural practices, the history of the Forts Walla Walla, and more. 

Please participate in our month-long April Fool’s Scavenger Hunt! While playing with his group in Walla Walla, he is studying with Robert Gomez (Norah Jones/Philip Glass), Dr. Doug Scarborough, Dave Glenn, and G. Louis Hemenway. He is pursuing a graduate degree in Jazz after college.

The Museum’s biggest summer event includes free ice cream, Living History, and the interactive live-action Oregon Trail Game (inspired by the popular 1985 education video game). Bring your team and survival skills to make it from Independence, Missouri, all the way to Fort Walla Walla. In this kid-friendly game, there will be calamities to overcome, fun activities to complete, and a photo opportunity at the end.

Pack your wagon to travel the Oregon Trail and stop at forts along the way, where your wagon party will be checked for the necessary supplies for your travel. Along this journey, you will face different calamities you must overcome using pioneer skills, creativity, or pure luck. If you make it to the last stop, Fort Walla Walla, you will be rewarded with 320 acres of land!

From packing your wagon with supplies to overcoming obstacles along the way (snakebite remedy, anyone?), kids and adults alike will have a lot of fun learning about travel on the Trail.

Seasoned criminal Orvy Whipstitch Horvath — known to keep company with lowlifes and horse-thieves has escaped Walla Walla’s territorial prison. Gather up a search team and help the law track him down! If you succeed, you will be rewarded. Horvath escaped through Fort Walla Walla and left careless clues behind.

This two-day, family-friendly event is an interactive puzzle through the Museum. Find clues detailing Orvy’s escape plans, bring your wits, and trace Orvy’s trail to discover the criminal in his hiding spot!

The Pacific Northwest Living Historians (PNLH) will demonstrate the tools and skills employed by the explorers of the epic Lewis and Clark expedition.

Captain Meriwether Lewis and Captain William Clark were sent by President Thomas Jefferson to explore the newly acquired Louisiana Territory and to seek the best route to the Pacific Ocean through what we now call the Pacific Northwest. During their voyage of 1804 – 1806, they led the Corps of Northwestern Discovery overland from St. Louis, Missouri, to the mouth of the Columbia River and back again. With no means for resupply, the Corps (a U.S. Army unit of 31 men accompanied by Sacagawea and her infant child, Jean Baptiste) needed to use diverse skills and the right tools to survive.

Dressed in clothing of the style and materials worn by the members of the Corps in 1805-1806, PNLH interpreters will demonstrate and discuss many of those tools and skills, such as handling flintlock firearms, camp cooking, making clothing from leather, and making canoe paddles. Visitors can learn the history and stories of the Lewis and Clark expedition: the native people that they met, the unfamiliar territory they traveled and mapped, and the strange new animals and plants they discovered.

Grab a lawn chair and get ready for the fun Classics Cruise. A few days before the cruise, we’ll publish a map for the 2023 route. Wheelin’ Walla Walla is held each September, the weekend after Labor Day, in historic downtown.

The Show 'n' Shine takes center stage on Saturday! Stroll Main Street where over 400 cars, trucks and motorcycles are on display and line the street from Park to Sixth Street.  An awards ceremony at 3pm caps off this family-friendly event.

Not too long ago, horses were replaced by “speed wagons,” motorized vehicles. Fort Walla Walla Museum is excited to recognize that history with the American Truck Historical Society, which will host its annual truck show.

Come out for the day and see locally owned vintage trucks, pickup trucks, vintage cars, and “old iron” on display. Meet the owners and enjoy stories about their vehicles and equipment. The Annual Truck Show includes the Blue Mountain Chapter members’ vehicles and equipment, which reflects the road transportation history and the connection with the region.

The Blue Mountain Chapter of the ATHS organizes and runs the truck show. Forty to fifty vehicles, including farm trucks, pickups, and semis, are expected to be displayed, along with small engines, tractors, and other transportation items.

Incorporated in 1971, the American Truck Historical Society preserves the history of trucks, the trucking industry, and its pioneers. An annual convention has been held each year since 1972, with a public antique truck show added in 1980. If you are interested, have stories to share, or enjoy seeing and “feeling” old trucks and cars, we look forward to meeting you!

This is the perfect event for families. There will be live music, food, fun, and fine vehicles.

The Downtown Walla Walla Foundation is pleased to present the Annual Holiday Parade of Lights. Always held on the first Saturday in December, this event features a huge variety of lighted entries and thousands of spectators who help herald in the start of the holiday shopping season.

The parade begins promptly at 6 pm at the corner of Alder and Fifth Street. The parade travels east on Alder to Spokane, Spokane to Main Street, and Main Street to Sixth. The Jolly Old Elf Himself, SANTA CLAUS, will bring the parade to a close as he makes his way into Downtown Walla Walla.

The event is admission-free for visitors looking to shop in the Museum Store and participate in the holiday festivities without touring the Museum.
